TEN MOST INFLUENTIAL NIGERIANS IN 2013

Looking back at the year that just ended, we recall a number of notable incidents and individuals who had a significant influence through divers means on the Nigerian people and society. Below are our carefully selected top ten individuals selected from different walks of life.

1. CHIEF OLUSEGUN OBASANJO

Some of you may be wondering why he made the list at all. The ex President has a profound influence in Nigerian politics whether you agree or not. Last year, OBJ released an open letter to President Goodluck Jonathan and the later suddenly became a hit, something like a best seller if it were a novel or movie. Obj's open letter has led to many open letters since it was released to the press late last year.

2. PRESIDENT GOODLUCK JONATHAN

Hate him all you can. The man who once claimed he had no shoes at a time in his life has found a way to be in the news daily. GEJ is always an issue of debate be it on National Tv or social media. The regular criticisms of Gej has made him an everyday topic in Nigeria.

3. ALIKO DANGOTE

Billionaire enterprenuer and the richest black man live. He made a whopping 9.8 billion dollars alone in 2013 and is today ranked as the 30th richest man in the world with a networth of over $30b. I believe every Nigerian youth wants to be like Dabgote right now. I don't know about you, but I sincerely want to be like him.

4. LINDA IKEJI

This may possibly come as a surprise to many but the truth is that the popular blogger commands a wonderful influence and is a household name. Linda could blog a trivial issue and get over 2,000 comments which is way more than the hits some popular websites get daily. Some people wake up with her blog, while some others have the application on their phones.

5. JOSEPH JAPHETH OMOJUWA

This is another blogger who focuses on politics and society in general. Omojuwa has over 95,000 faithful followers on twitter and when he tweets, the response and retweets he gets is massive. Omojuwa can conveniently start a social network protest against anybody.

6. PATRICK OBAHIAGBON

The higi-haga man holds the number six position on our list. The former house of rep member who is popular for speaking some mind blowing and nerve wrecking grammer has become almost a celebrity in Nigeria.

7. OBAFAIYE SHEM (OGA AT THE TOP)

You all can still remember clearly how an interview went viral and the video became the most viewed, downloaded and transfered Nigerian video of all time. Almost one year after the incidence, people still use the phrase 'My oga at the top'. The event that cost him his job made him extremely popular.

8. BOLA TINUBU/MOHAMADU BUHARI

The merging of parties especially between Buhari's CPC and Tinubu's ACN into the new APC, has changed the game play in the Nigerian political terrain making it look like a two party system. The duo has shown that they have an indepth knowledge of the Nigerian political system by becoming the type of threat that PDP in their 15 years in power has never before witnessed.

9. PASTOR E.A ADEBOYE/BISHOP DAVID OYEDEPO

These two Nigerian pastors run two of the biggest churches in the country with a very large followership. Their annual retreats at the end of each year attracts millions of people from around the world.

10. D'BANJ, DON JAZZY, WIZKID,OLAMIDE,DAVIDO AND PHYNO

To many D'banj has lost it but the Koko master has somehow remained relevant even without releasing many songs. D'banj has gained the respect of many Nigerian youths who admire his business style.

Wizkid is the most sought after Nigerian star, releasing hits after hits year in year out since the release of his superstar album. He made the list of most google commands in Nigeria last year.

Don Jazzy doesn't seem to be slowing down. The Mavin boss who is currently one of the most successful producers from Africa last year gave us another hit through Tiwa Savage title Eminado.

Olamide stole the show for the major part of last year and hasn't stopped. The Yoruba rapper has been able to attract love from Yoruba's and non Yoruba's alike.

Davido the Skelewu master had everybody dancing to the song last year making one of the biggest songs that came out of the country in 2013.

Phyno the enigmatic Igbo rapper didn't stop after Ghostmode. He has continued to release hit singles ever since and has become a household name in Nigerian music
