KELLY ROWLAND TO HOST LOVE LIKE A MOVIE

Multiple award winning American singer, actress and former Destiny's Child star, Kelly Rowland has been unveiled as one of the top stars that will headline Dare Alade's Love Like A Movie. The event that will hold on February 15th is tagged 'The Love Roller Coaster.

Other artistes billed to perform at the event include D'banj, Tiwa Savage, Seyi Shay, Mo ‘Eazy, Zaina, Timi Dakolo, Waje, Muna, JJC, Eva and others.

This year's edition of the LLAM red carpet will be streamed online across the world and will hold on Saturday 15 February at Eko Hotel & Suites Oceanview Grounds.

Femi Kuti loses out in the Best World Music Album Category at the Grammys. This is the 4th time that he has been nominated and is yet to win the award.

The Nigerian music legend was nominated for the 56th Annual Grammy Awards with 3 other artistes.

He lost out to French group Gipsy Kings and South African group Ladysmith Black Mambazo. It was a tie.

Femi has always been vocal about always losing and made it known that he doesn’t plan to attend the awards ceremony.

DAVIDO TO FEATURE ON MAFIKOZOLO'S NEW TRACK

South African music group behind the hit song Khona are working on a musical collaboration with Nigerian music sensation Davido. Soth African singer and producer Oskido revealed on twitter yesterday.  He didn't reveal the name of the song which is being recorded in SA but he hinted that its being produced by Davido's music producer, Shizzi.

FINDING FELA!

Finding Fela, a documentary on the life of the legendary Fela Anikulapo Kuti, is set to premiere at the 2014 Sundance Festival in the US.

The Sundance Institute announced that the documentary is among the Films and Documentary selected to be screened at the 30th Sundance Film Festival  which started January 16 and ended Jan. 26 in Park City, Salt Lake City, Ogden and Sundance, Utah.

Finding Fela is directed by Oscar-winning director; Alex Gibney. Produced by Jigsaw Productions alongside Knitting Factory Entertainment among others.

According to the documentary’s synopsis, Fela Anikulapo Kuti created the musical movement called Afrobeat and used it as a political forum to oppose the Nigerian dictatorship and advocate for the rights of oppressed people. This is the story of his life, music, and political importance.

LATEST ON KCEE'S IMPOSTOR

Hot rave of the moment, KCee has placed a bounty of $1000 on an impostor who has been using his name to defraud unsuspecting fans on social media platforms.

The ‘Limpopo’ crooner distanced himself from the fraudster and said he’s willing to throw the said amount on whoever can provide useful information that will lead to the arrest of the impostor.

The fraudster has been using a parody Facebook and Instagram accounts to dupe people. The singer said he has not asked anyone to send money to him.

"There’s a guy with a fake Instagram account @offiallkcee. It’s not me. Don’t be "jonzed" and I am not asking anyone for money please."

"This is the number of the scammer 08187299188. Please, anybody with any useful information concerning this mobile number, $1,000 will be rewarded,". KCee wrote through his authentic twitter account, @Iam_KCee.

LASU CLOSING?

On Wednesday,trouble started at the Lagos state university(LASU) after the VC Prof, John Obafunwa refused to re-open the registration portal for over 1200 students left to register for examinations.

Following the issue, the Lagos State University ((LASU) has been shut down indefinitely following what the school termed ‘violent protest by students’. This is happening just barely three weeks after resumption from a long strike action which has drawn many students back and now the school is being closed down. Do they expect the students to continue sitting at home while parents remain helpless about the way the Education of their child is faring?

The school management shared the bulletin above announcing the indefinite closure, and asked all students to vacate the school premises until further notice. Exams have also been put off until further notice.

CHIKA IKE..MOST DISCIPLINED ACTRESS OF THE YEAR?

 Chika Ike has bagged so many awards since she came into limelight in 2005.The latest award is from the Actors Guild of Nigeria as the 'most disciplined actress of the year 2013'. She took to her instagram page to announce this achievement and was congratulated well by her fans.

Now the question is: Does Chika Ike really deserve this award? We can recall all her controversies that has left tongues wagging. During the Christmas period,her pictures in Dubai went viral and lots of people commented that she was a 'showoff'. She usually gets mixed reactions of her yearly calendar which she releases at the end of the year. Some even rumoured that she was going out with the senate president, David Mark. The end of her marriage brought up a lot of speculation with people insinuating different reasons in the media. The entertainment industry especially the Americans started shoving it in our faces. I have always felt it was a means to market their products while many people argue otherwise claiming they were on a mission.

In the past it used to be just music and that was what Michael Jackson and other greats did initially before 'BAD' broke almost every music record at the time.

In the course of his career, Michael Jackson spent millions of dollars shooting very wonderful videos but with the supposed illuminati craze, the likes of Kanye West, Jay-z and the others dished out videos that would have been considered not good enough for the screens and recorded huge successes with them by including strange symbols and uttering lyrics that seemed to attack established religion.

After a while, I guess the trick became boring and they moved to naming their albums in the most absurd manner. Kanye West's 'Yeezus', Jay-z's 'Magna carta holy grail', Joe Cole's 'Born Sinner' were all an attempt to grab success with less input.

This time the trick worked only for a short while and in other to remain relevant, Kanye West started ranting through most part of last year.

As the illuminati trick was dying, the younger generation artistes like Miley Cyrus discovered the power of nudity in the modern world and has since been topping charts with her out of control behaviour.

The effect didn't die in America, just as many Nigerians tried to copy the illuminati trick, some Nigerians have copied the nude trick too and topping the list is female artiste Maheeda who only recently has remained in the news for her newly found 'Naija Baddest girl' style.

Every artiste wants attention and publicity through the easiest or cheapest means, so they do what they do but do you think some like Maheeda go too far to achieve this?

MARY J BLIGE'S FATHER STABBED

Thomas Blige, the father of legendary singer Mary J. Blige,  is in critical condition after his ex-girlfriend allegedly stabbed him in the neck.

Sky News reports that police in, Battle Creek, Michigan said Thomas Blige’s ex-girlfriend was being held on an attempted murder charge following the attack.

Officers said the 63-year-old suffered a neck wound in the attack, which happened at around 7am on Wednesday.

He was taken to Kalamazoo’s Bronson Methodist Hospital, which has said it has no information on his condition.

Detective Sgt. Jim Martens told the Battle Creek Enquirer that officers recovered the knife and found Mr Blige’s ex-girlfriend with blood on her clothing.

She is in the Calhoun County jail and was due to appear before a court on Friday.

Michael Thomas, Mr Blige’s roommate, told WOOD-TV of Grand Rapids that Mr Blige “heard some hissing sounds that he heard from outside, where the air was being let out of his tyres”.

He said Mr Blige ran outside and confronted the ex-girlfriend and “that’s when she attacked him”.

FINDING FELA GETS POSITIVE REVIEWS

Legendary Nigerian Music Icon Fela gets yet another international recognition. In 2011, FELA!, a stage play produced by Jay-Z, Beyonce and Will Smith documenting his life became an instant success.

A new documentary – Finding Fela – profiling the late Nigerian music icon, was one of the 18 movies screened at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival. The festival took place from Thursday 16th January 2014 to Wednesday 22nd January 2014 at Park City, Utah.

Finding Fela is directed by Academy Award winner Alex Gibney. At the premiere, Gibney, his production crew as well as Fela Kuti’s daughter Yeni Kuti who was a dancer for her father, were present.

Nigeria's very own D'Banj has been verified on famous social media website, Facebook. 

 The self-acclaimed 'Kokomaster' becomes the first Nigerian celebrity and the second Nigerian to have his account confirmed. Before now, President Goodluck Jonathan was the only Nigerian verified on Facebook. 

Dbanj's account with Facebook now carries a 'blue tick' sign to show the authentic account of the singer and distinguish it from parody accounts of D'Banj. 

Unlike twitter, which has more than a few Nigerian public figures verified on its platform, getting verified on facebook is more difficult.

Afro beat legend Femi Kuti is one of the few musicians who have gotten four Grammy Award nominations for four different albums. Though the singer is yet to win the coveted award,so many parties has been organized by entertainment stakeholders to celebrate his achievements.

During one of the parties held at The Place in Ikeja, the legend who spoke to a cross section of people said, “When I was doing the album, I wasn’t thinking of any awards. The news came, I put in for it and I got nominated, it means that we are still relevant. All the parties has been fixed to late in the night and you know I don’t do late nights except shows. I don’t club neither a fan of parties. But if I win then we will party hard and celebrate.”

Femi Kuti was nominated in the category of “Best World Music Album” for his album “No Place For My Dream”. He was nominated alongside Gipsy Kings, Ladysmith Black Mambazo and Ravi Shankar. The 56th Annual Grammy Awards holds at the Staple Centre LA next weekend.

BEYONCE KNOWLES PERFORMS AT MICHELLE OBAMA'S 50TH BIRTHDAY

 Beyoncé, according to reports sang hit after hit and partied with Michelle Obama at the White House until 2 a.m. President Barack Obama threw the big bash for his wife on Saturday to celebrate Michelle's 50th birthday with close friends and loved ones.

Beyoncé looked stunning in a Randi Rahm gold Mallory cocktail dress while reportedly performing "Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)" and "Irreplaceable" for guests. IS ADAMU MUAZU THE NEW PDP NATIONAL CHAIRMAN?

Ahmadu Adamu Mu'azu, a former Governor of Bauchi State, is reported to have been chosen as the new National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)

Mu'azu, 58, was said to be unanimously adopted on Sunday night at a meeting attended by President Goodluck Jonathan, Vice President Namadi Sambo, Chairman of the party's Board of Trustees, Chief Tony Anenih; Senate President David Mark and all the state Governors elected under the PDP amongst others.

It was gathered that Mu'azu was later invited to join the meeting at the Presidential Villa after the leaders had agreed on his choice.

It was further gathered that he gave a commitment that he'll reposition the party and strengthen it ahead of the general elections...Lets hope these are all steps towards taking the nation to greater heights.God bless Nigeria

LUPITA NYONG'O WINS BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS

Lupita Nyong'o wins the award for Best Supporting Actress on yesterday at the Screen Actors Guild Awards in California, USA.

The 12 Years a Slave actress who was nominated for the Oscars picked the for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role for her role in the movie.

This award puts her in a vantage position for the Oscars. The actress also got a Golden Globe nomination earlier this this month alongside British-Nigerian actor Chiwetel Ejiofor who also featured in 12 Years a slave.

100,000 Voices Telethon held at Koga studios, Oregun, Ikeja, Lagos and was broadcast live on Channels TV, EbonyLife TV and Beat FM on 18,January, 2014 between 10 Am and 1 pm.

Celebrities arrived in their numbers to lend their voices to GenVoices; the project-driven platform harnessing the offline and online energy of young Nigerians for practical efforts towards nation building.

In attendance were Omotola Jolade Ekeinde, Omawummi, Timi Dakolo, Mai Atafo, Eku Edewor, Mai Atafo, Toke Makinwa, Omoni Oboli, Kemi Lala Akindoju amongst others.
