Thomas Blige, the father of legendary singer Mary J. Blige, is in critical condition after his ex-girlfriend allegedly stabbed him in the neck.
Sky News reports that police in, Battle Creek, Michigan said Thomas Blige’s ex-girlfriend was being held on an attempted murder charge following the attack.
Officers said the 63-year-old suffered a neck wound in the attack, which happened at around 7am on Wednesday.
He was taken to Kalamazoo’s Bronson Methodist Hospital, which has said it has no information on his condition.
Detective Sgt. Jim Martens told the Battle Creek Enquirer that officers recovered the knife and found Mr Blige’s ex-girlfriend with blood on her clothing.
She is in the Calhoun County jail and was due to appear before a court on Friday.
Michael Thomas, Mr Blige’s roommate, told WOOD-TV of Grand Rapids that Mr Blige “heard some hissing sounds that he heard from outside, where the air was being let out of his tyres”.
He said Mr Blige ran outside and confronted the ex-girlfriend and “that’s when she attacked him”.
